View Full Version : Thinking of chambered mufflers...

So i got my 96 mustang with a magnapack catback already on it. The sound is OK but I prefer that Mac chambered sound. So my questions are pretty basic; hopefully i can get some feedback from you guys with chambered mufflers. I'm running stock H pipe.
Will I lose any power from switching from magnapacks to flowpaths(or anything similar)?
Will I lose any volume by switching mufflers?
If i switch to flowpaths AND mac catted H pipe, will the sound and power of the system be equal to my magnapack catback?
Hope i can get some feedback cuz no one on SVTperformance replied to my thread:( . Thanks!

****No you will NOT lose any power from just switching the Mufflers
Will I lose any volume by switching mufflers?
****NO if you go to a MAC or Flowmaster muffler it will GET LOUDER
If i switch to flowpaths AND mac catted H pipe, will the sound and power of the system be equal to my magnapack catback?
****MAC No longer makes a catted H Pipe so you would have to run a OFF ROAD OR have cats installed. The sound will be louder and you should pickup more power IF you have a stock H-Pipe. If you run a OFF Road H-Pipe YOU WILL LOSE SOME low end power.

Thanks for the response!!! Exactly what i needed to know. Should i go with the stainless or will the steel one be fine? Price is double so i kinda mind, but i won't go cheap if it's not worth it.

I would go Stainless unless your budget is tight. The steel will rust over time.

UPDATE: I got my flowpaths welded in and it's quite different from magnapacks. I love the tone of the sound...sounds more "domestic" and hollow. I feel that I did lose some of that low pitch rumble, the kind that sets of car alarms haha. I'm gonna pursue getting the MAC pro chamber and getting a couple of cats welded in to keep it semi-legal. The shop i use doesn't do that so i guess i'll have to use another :(.

i'll be there and i'll be happy to give you some revs. I feel my exhaust is kinda inferior compared to alot of those cars; it seems most ppl have an OR pipe. I'll fold to the peer pressure soon enough. :)

You can always get o/r and swap the stock mid pipe back in when needed for smog and what not. Its not hard at all to swap a mid pipe.

i think we do sound pretty good compared to most, but when ur in-between 2 2004 cobras with 2 or less cats during a cruise, you feel kinda inferior hehe
